While in search of a switchboard mat, I discovered that there are 3 basic kinds of mats that fall under this category:

• Standard rubber mat that is designed to prevent electrical shocks, is oil resistant and will not be damaged from excessive UV radiation. • Diamond Mats. These are metallic mats that are made to government specs for the Department of Defense. • Smooth Mats. These mats are metallic based and are made to meet other military specs designated by the Department of Defense

I opted for the standard rubber mats. They looked very sturdy and I believed that it was a good decision. I know that standing all day can be very hard on the legs, so the extra cushioning should provide some comfort.

Of course, the main purpose of these mats is to help prevent electric shock, and that is the main reason that I am purchasing them. I have a lot of publishing equipment in my shop and there is always a possibility of shocks.
